Hi everyone it’s Millie here. I’m very excited today because it is the day of the big Blogville Halloween Ball. A couple of weeks ago Sarge, the Blogville Chief of Police, asked me to be his date for the ball. After I checked with my pawrents I let Sarge know we could go to the ball together.
Of course the first thing I had to do was decide what to wear to the ball. I put my mom on the job and as usual she did not disappoint me. She got her crochet hook working over time and made me the most beautiful candy corn dress I have ever seen.
Millie modeling her Candy Corn Dress
Sarge has a whole day of activities planned for us and was right on time to pick me up. I took him out to the back yard and introduced him to my dad. He met mom too, but she was behind the camera so there are no pictures of her.
Hello Mr. Charlie…I promise to have Miss Millie home on time sir.
Isn’t Sarge just so handsome in his candy corn bandanna? He picked it out especially to match my dress. We went inside for a little while and Walter wanted to have a talk with Sarge before we took off.
No funny stuff Sarge…I’ll be watching you.
I have to admit that Walter looks pretty cute in the bumble bee costume mom made for him. We posed for some pictures before we left. You know how pawrents want those formal pictures.
You look fantastic Millie. Thank you Sarge…you look very handsome too.
Before I knew it we were getting in our ride to start today’s adventure.
Don’t worry Sarge…I promise not to run out on you at midnight. My mom said we could stay out as late as we want.
I can’t wait to see where Sarge is going to take me. He promised me a bite to eat before we head to the ball and would you just look at that beautiful pumpkin carriage he came in?
To see how our date went visit Sarge’s blog later today. He will be posting about our date around 5pm Eastern Time. If you miss his post I will have a recap here on Friday. Wish me luck on my first big date!
Hi everyone! It’s Walter here to remind you just how much I wuv my Wubba! My dad is a great help with my wubba obsession as you can see below.
Coiled and ready to launch
Launching toward the target!
We have lift off!
Gotcha!
Coming in for a landing
I wuv my wubba!
I will do almost anything for my wubba. Aren’t those pictures great! It even looks like my shadow is flying. Special note: No daddy’s fingers were harmed in the filming of this adventure. I only go for the wubba!
Millie wants me to remind everyone to be sure to check out all the action for the big Blogville Halloween bash. We will be showing you some of the fun we are having tomorrow. I had fun destroying a pumpkin for Sarges event and Millie is going on a date with Sarge. Ooooh…Millie and Sarge sitting in a tree…..
Hi everyone it’s Cindy here. I wanted to share a simple project I finished recently. Since I started crocheting I have been accumulating yarn and my stash closet was starting to get messy. I wanted to find some nice boxes that I could use to put the yarn in, but most of them were too high to fit between the shelves. Of course I figured why not just find a pattern to make something instead of buying it? That way I could also make sure it was just the size I needed. I also had a lot of cotton yarn left over that I used to make the granny square pin cushions so I decided to use it for this project. It would also help to use up some of my stash!
Large Crochet Box – green side
I found a pattern by Bernat (which also is the brand of cotton yarn I had) that uses two strands of cotton yarn to make these boxes. Since the Bernat people changed their website I can’t find a link to the pattern or I would include it here.
Large crochet box – blue side
You just use single crochet for all the sides and can even add a handle to the sides. I used one strand of white and one strand of colored yarn for each side.
Large crochet box – bottom view
This box measures about 12″ x 12″ x 11″ and fits perfectly in my stash closet.
If you want you can use a fabric stiffener to make the box stand up better, but when it’s full there is no problem with that.
Much neater with the yarn contained
There used to be a lot of skeins of yarn stuffed between the stacks of fabric, but now most of it fits in my new box. This is a large box and did take a while to complete, but I will probably make another one when I need to contain more yarn.
Small Crochet box
I had so much fun making the big box that I made a smaller one too.
Crochet box keeps sewing tools contained.
When I’m working at my sewing machine there are a lot of little things you use such as scissors, seam rippers, and thread. I used to have a small cardboard box to use, but this looks so much more elegant.
Small Crochet box – just right for sewing tools
Being small this one stands up on its own without any need for stiffener. I find working with cotton yarn to be slow since it doesn’t slip through you fingers very smoothly and especially so with two strands at a time, but I love these boxes and can see making more in the future. After all Bernat came out with another set of purple/turquoise cotton yarns that I had to buy when it was on sale a while ago and of course I didn’t have anything in mind to make with them yet (they are very large skeins too). Making these boxes can be a bit addictive.
Hi everyone! It’s Millie & Walter here to tell you about the fantastic cake our mom made for us for our big celebration.
Okay it might not be a fancy as the one we pictured on our celebration day post, but we think our mom did a pretty good job. She said the squirty green icing was not very easy to control, but you can still read it just fine. She found the recipe online at allrecipes.com and added some canned cream cheese frosting. Since she put frosting on it mom and dad decided it would be best if we had out pieces outside so we didn’t make too much mess.
Mmmm…that smells great! Are we done with the pictures now?
We each got our own plate with a small piece on it (stingy pawrents!).
I, Walter, had my piece gobbled up in no time.
Nom, nom, nom!
Whereas I, Millie, was more cautious about eating it and needed a little help.
Nom, nom, nom!
While Millie was taking her time eating her piece of cake I had to just watch. It is torture watching Millie eat…she is sooooo slow!
Thanks for holding the plate dad.
Dad helped me out a bit too and held the plate so I could be sure to get every molecule of frosting.
Gobble, gobble…this is good.
After being so dainty with my cake at first I decided it was good enough to just snarf it down in one gulp. We are very happy that mom made us this great cake and we even got more for the next few days until it was gone. We are joining Sugar’s Tasty Tuesday blog hop today.
By the way all the ingredients in the cake are human edible too and our dad even tried a piece. His only complaint was that it was a bit dry. If it weren’t for the frosting he said he couldn’t have gotten it down.
Hi everyone it’s Walter here. Now first don’t get too worried about the title of this post as it is only a little boo boo. You see a few days ago Millie & I were doing our usual zoomies around the yard when I had a close encounter with a tree branch. There was a loud crash and when Millie & I came out from under the tree we were acting like nothing happened. Truth be told not much happened, but mom noticed I had some hair missing from my side. Of course she kind of freaked out and came over and started touching me around the scraped spot. It kind of looked like someone had taken a razor and just shaved off a patch of hair. Mom gave me a good going over to make sure nothing else was bruised or broken and everything was just fine. Thank Dog I didn’t have to go to the VET!
Nothing serious…just a little flesh wound.
This picture was taken a few days after the incident and as you can see a nice scab has formed over the scrape. The problem is that in order to keep me from licking my boo boo until it fully heals I have to wear a shirt all the time.
Is red a good color for me?
I have to say that I have been really good about wearing a t-shirt all the time. The only thing I have to be careful of is making sure I don’t pee on it so mom always hikes it up a bit before I go out to do my business. It’s a good thing the weather has turned cooler so I’m not getting hot wearing a shirt all the time.
Does this shirt make my butt look big?
Mom says I only have to wear my shirt until the scab comes off naturally. I don’t mind I think the t-shirt makes me look tough.
On another note Millie wanted me to make sure I paid tribute to our sweet friend Mr. Pip who went to the rainbow bridge this weekend.
I didn’t really know him much, but Millie said she had a great time when he and Puddles came to visit this past winter. He was loved by all and will be very much missed. We will see you again someday Mr. Pip. Say hi to Angel Nina for us.
Hi Everyone! It’s Millie & Walter here together to start our celebration! First up mom thinks you all should click on this video and let it play in the background to get you in the mood to party!
Okay, now that you have the music going let’s start the festivities.
It’s hard for me and my pawrents to believe that one year ago today I came to live with them. The year has just flown by. Let’s take a quick walk down memory lane.
Foster Parents Michael & Darcy watch as Charlie has Millie sit for a treat.
I had no idea that day, one year ago, when my foster pawrents brought me to mommy and daddy’s house that they were going to leave me there. I was a little upset at first when they left, but daddy played with me a little, I took a nap and when I woke up I knew I was home and didn’t worry about where Darcy and Michael went. I still love to see my foster pawrents and get pretty crazy when I visit with them. I will never forget what a great time I had at their home.
Of course there was a bit of mischief along the way too. Do you remember what happened to the “The Last of the Mohicans”
I swear I heard squirrels in here
Of course my life changed a lot about half way through my first year here when Walter joined us. I knew from the minute I first met Walter that we would be the best of friends forever.
As all of our followers know we play hard and sleep hard. I would have to say that Walter is one of the best things that happened around here this past year. He really is a great brother and always so much fun to play with, wrestle with and chase. On that note I will turn the blog over to him because today Walter becomes a real big boy!
Woo Hoo! I can’t believe I’m a big boy now. I have to give a shout out to my brother Brodie (if that is still his name) and wish him a happy birthday too. We had a rough start until we were rescued by Big Dogs Big Hearts, but I’m glad I had him by my side through that ordeal. I sure do miss him and hope we can see each other sometime and I hope he is as happy as I am in my forever home.
Mom was baking all day yesterday and she said there would be a special cake for Millie and I to share (I don’t think it really looks like the one in the picture though). Grab a plate and enjoy some of our cake and make sure to grab a drink too. We have all kinds of soft drinks and some great New York State apple cider. Mom says we are still too young for any of the harder stuff, but I bet some of our furends might have a flask or two with them {{wink, wink}}.
I might have had a rough start in life, but since I came to my forever home life could not be better.
I love playing with water!
I learned how much fun playing in water could be although I still haven’t been swimming yet. I will put that on my list for this next year. Of course I have had a great time getting to know my sister and having the time of my life playing with her.
Sticking together
All in all I could not be a happier boy. Millie and I want to thank Big Dogs Big Hearts for not only bringing us to our pawrents, but for bringing us together too. We are lucky pups to have the pawrents we do (although some might say they are lucky to have us) and we also want to thank all our friends in Blogville for joining in our big Celebration Day! Let the party begin!
Hi everyone! It’s Millie here to tell you about an award I received a couple of days ago.
The Opposites Attract Award
The very studly Vidock from the Poupounette gang over in France gave me the Opposites Attract Award. Now if you don’t know Vidock and his family you should hop over for a visit. Just to prove how opposite we are I borrowed a couple of pictures of Vidock from their blog (I hope his mom doesn’t mind).
Vidock
See what I mean? Not only is Vidock an opposite by being a boy but as you can see he is also a horse. He is a very handsome Percheron stallion to be specific.
I would love to kiss his snip!
For a stallion he sure is a gentleman and loves to give kisses to anyone willing to pucker up.
I like this award since there aren’t very many rules. So now all I have to do is pass this award on to some other bloggers. I have decided to use a wide range of descriptions for my “opposites”. First up is our esteemed Mayor Miss Madi. We may be similar because we are both girls but she is a CAT and I am a dog but I think she is a really cool cat!
Next up on my opposite list is Coccolino the Mini Pet Pig. This cute little guy actually lives near me, but we have never met. How cool would it be to meet a little pig?
Last on my list is Nim from the Quilting Doberman. He lives in the Pacific Northwest with his mom and two cats. I think he is pretty cute too {{blushes}}.
Now for my big announcement!
Tomorrow is going to be a big day around here. Not only is it my First Gotcha Day but it is also Walter’s First Birthday!!!! So be sure to come back tomorrow for a big HUGE party! You are all invited to come by and help us celebrate.
