Gotcha Day-banner

Hi everyone it’s Walter here. There is no mischief today. Instead I have something exciting to share with all of you. I can’t believe that it has been one year since I joined this family already! It sure has been an exciting year. Before I get started I have to tell you that another very important Blogville resident has his Gotcha Day today too. Please visit Frankie Furter to wish him a Happy 7th Gotcha Day. I’m honored to share this day with the former mayor of Blogville.

I love to pose for pictures

I don’t know where to start to recount my first year in this great home. Of course I wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for my rescue Big Dogs Big Hearts that came and got my brother and I from our awful first home. We were in pretty bad shape but with a quick bath we were on our way to our foster homes. I was lucky to have a wonderful foster home with Lindsay and Jon and my foster fur sibs Rocco the dog and Zoe the cat.

One of the best things about my first year has been having Millie by my side. She is a great big sister and has taught me so much. I don’t think I could have possibly found a better match as a play mate. During this past year I gained about 15 pounds (6.8 kg) which makes Millie and I exactly the same weight. She still can kick my butt every time we wrestle but I don’t care because it is all fun.

I’ve had so many firsts this year I couldn’t possibly recount every one of them. Of course you could always take a trip down memory lane by perusing our blog for the past year too. Millie and I love to participate in Blogville events and I would have to say my favorite was the Valentine’s day dance where I got to escort my beautiful date Tui.

I heard that Sarge is hosting another Date Day coming up on May 19th. I can’t think of a better Gotcha Day gift than having my sweet Tui agree to go on another date with me. So how about it Tui? Will you go out with me for Sarge’s Date Day? I have no idea where we will go or what we will do but I promise it will be fun.

To finish the Gotch Day post I just want to say thanks to everyone that visits us whether you leave a comment or not. We love all our Blogville friends and love being part of this wonderful community.

We are honored to have received the Yoo-Hoo Award from our friends over at The Poupounette. Thanks for thinking of us for this fun award. If you don’t already know the Poupounette gang you should go visit them. With one dog, four cats, two horses and #1 (that’s what they call their human) there is something for everyone to enjoy. Oh yeah, they also live in France which is heaven if you are a dog. Did you know dogs go almost everywhere their humans go in France, even to restaurants?

We are supposed to tell you three things we have to celebrate:

I love hanging out in our yard on a beautiful spring day!

I love hanging out in our yard on a beautiful spring day!

1) Spring! Yes it has finally reached us and we are so happy to be able to get out into our yard and enjoy the green grass under your toes.

2) Siblings. We are so happy that our pawrents picked us to be together. We are a great match in size and temperament and we both love to play and run around our house and yard together.

3) Big Dogs Big Hearts! This is the rescue group that both of us came from. Without them we wouldn’t be together and we wouldn’t be here. Thanks BDBH for all you do for lots of dogs all the time.

We are supposed to pass this award on to seven other blogs. We’re not quite sure who has had it yet so our apologies if it’s already come your way. We would like to pass it on to:

  1. Walter’s girlfriend Tui and her family at Alasandra, The Cats and Dogs
  2. The cutest Doodle boys around – Murphy & Stanley
  3. Millie’s near twin Lee and her brother Phod over at The Hailey & Zaphod Chronicles
  4. Stella, Angus and Maggie from The Three Little Pugs
  5. Dory, Jakey, Arty and Bilbo over at Dory’s Backyard
  6. Tweedles at Through the Eyes of Tweedles
  7. Bunny, Morgan, Küster & Flattery from Tales & Tails

We love all our Blogville friends and had a difficult time picking just 7 to honor. We hope if you don’t already know one of the nominated blogs that you will go visit them and say hi.

Hi everyone! It’s Millie here.  Our dad likes to watch British Premier League Soccer Football on Saturday mornings. Walter and I like to keep him company. Sometimes our mom joins us too but she is usually not really watching the soccer. We decided to entertain her with a little bitey face. Check out our action video below.

If you can’t see the video you can go here to view it.

When we were done we settled in for a nice snuggle with mom.

We’ve been looking all over for the Easter Bunny. This was the only bunny we could find. Hey Ranger do you think this is the Easter Bunny you’ve been looking for?

Are you the Easter Bunny?

Hi everyone! It’s Walter here. I thought I would join Dory this week with her Flower Friday post. She lives in Northern California where it’s been spring for a long time and made this cute badge. If you don’t already know her you should click on her name or the badge and go say hello.

Looks like her mom is a hooker crocheter too with that lovely afghan in the background (my mom made me point that out).

We don’t have much in bloom right now and are a bit behind schedule but we are so happy to have some color come back to our yard.

The daffodils are getting taller but not in bloom yet

These cute little flowers are always the first bulbs to bloom in our yard. We have these in blue, pink and white.

Our first tree to bloom is the Cornelian Cherry Dogwood. The blossoms are just starting to open.

We might not have much in bloom yet but we have lots of perennials poking out of the ground with a promise of flowers to come.

Well, like I said there isn’t much in bloom but things are starting to poke out of the ground and the grass has started to green up and grow. We had a nice sunny day today and I enjoyed helping mom take pictures of our flowers.  I hope you liked our first edition of Flower Friday for 2014.

Wild Bird Wednesday

I know what you are thinking. Why is she posting Wild Bird Wednesday on Tuesday? Well the Wild Bird Wednesday blog hop is hosted in Australia so if I wait to post on Wednesday the blog hop is at least half over by the time my post goes up so here it is.

Well earlier this week I showed you how our Bluebirds and Blue jay fared during our most recent snow storm. Here is a look at a few of our other visitors to our meal worm feeder this past Sunday. The weather might not be very spring like but the bird activity indicates that spring is in the air.

Mr. Cardinal waits his turn and then feeds his mate.

Mr. Cardinal waits his turn and then feeds his mate.

The cardinals are exhibiting common pair bonding behavior by having the male feed the female. I love watching them do this and hope to catch it on video someday too.

An American Robin samples the worms.

An American Robin samples the worms.

This is the second year we have ever had robins using the meal worm feeder. These (there are two of them) are early arrivals and seemed to have staked a claim to our yard. With the ground covered with snow there isn’t much for them to feed on so they welcome the meal worms too. Once their usual feeding supplies become available the robins stop using the dried meal worms.

Who put this snow drift on our feeder?

Who put this snow drift on our feeder?

One of my favorite birds in our yard is the tufted titmouse. They are so fast that it can be a challenge to catch them in a picture.

For those of you that are curious, we have been feeding dried meal worms for many years with great success. Some people will tell you that bluebirds won’t use them but ours love them and later in the season bring their young to the feeding platform. As you can see we have many other species of birds using the feeder too.

If you are interested in getting some we purchase ours from DriedInsects.com. You can’t beat the price of the 11 pound bag especially if you order more than one (there is usually free shipping too). Most local stores only sell small bags that cost much more per pound. You might go that route if you wanted to give it a try but if you think you will be using them for the entire feeding season I would recommend the large bag. We go through two to three 11 pound bags per feeding season which runs from March to September.

I hope you have enjoyed this edition of Wild Bird Wednesday and will take some time to stop by the blog hop host too.

Note: the pictures above were all taken through a window so the quality isn’t quite up to par. Even with a long lens I can’t get this close without spooking most of the birds away nor did I want to sit out in the cold to get these. 😉
