Chewy Review – Wellness Core Marrow Roasts

It’s time for this month’s Chewy.com review. This month we are reviewing Wellness CORE Grain-Free Marrow Roasts Hearty Beef Recipe Dog Treats. There are other flavors available too.

You can click on the image to read about all the good stuff that is in (and not in – like grains) these treats.

As usual Walter had fun getting the treats out of the box.

We did get to have both pieces but they were one at a time. You can see that in our video below.

We really loved these treats! Walter wasn’t sure at first but the second one went down in a flash. There is no question this is an 8 paws up (because that is all the paws we have) great treat and we recommend them to all our friends.

Happy Tongue Out Tuesday!

Hi everyone! It’s Millie here.

This was just a few days ago when I was outside helping dad get the last of the leaves out of our yard. Today it looks like a winter wonderland. We got about 8 inches of snow the past couple of days and boy did I have fun doing zoomies in the white fluffy stuff! The temps are going to be above freezing for the next few days so all the white stuff should melt soon.

I’m sorry we haven’t been around to comment much the past few days. Our grandma had a minor operation (of course nothing is minor when you are in your 80’s) so our mom has been busy helping her and being with her at the hospital the past few days. Don’t worry too much because our grandma is home now and doing well but since she can’t drive for a few weeks our mom will be her taxi and personal shopper for a while.

I heard that we aren’t having a big bird for Thanksgiving but we are having a pork roast with all the usual trimmings so there will be plenty of left overs for us too.

Hooking on Hump Day – Silent Night Part III

Hi everyone it’s Cindy here. Today I’m joining the Hookin on Hump Day blog hop to show you part 3 of the crochet nativity I finished recently. You can read all about the first part here and the second part here. Today I’m showing you the three wise men and their camels.

The pattern for the wise men is from Let’s Knit Magazine, a magazine published in the UK, and can be found here. It contains the patterns for Baby Jesus, two shepherds, a sheep and the three wise men. This pattern is written in UK terms.

The original pattern for the wise men calls for you to use some sort of bead for the gifts but I couldn’t find anything that I thought was the right size. Never fear because Charlie came to the rescue. He made some cubes and cut a dowel and then stained them to match the wise men (we just happened to have the right stain colors to match the wise men). He topped them with some walnut and then drilled a hole through that I used to sew them to the wise men’s hands. I think they are perfect!

I decided that the wise men needed to have camels. I found this pattern from Canal Crochet. The same site I found the mule and ox pattern.

Just like the mule and ox pattern this one is written in Spanish. She does provide a key to translate the stitches to English but some of the longer phrases took a bit of work.

The great thing about these patterns is that the author also has full length videos of the entire process. Between the video and Google Translate I was able to decipher the patterns. I’m very happy with how the camels turned out. The original pattern calls for some fancier details on the camels blanket but I decided to just go with the two color look.

I used Knit Picks CotLin™ for all the pieces in this project.

If you like to do amigurumi you should definitely check out Canal Crochet’s blog and YouTube channel. There is a wide variety of patterns and they are all free! With just a little bit of work you can easily translate them.

I found the perfect sized box to hold all the figures. They were packed up and sent on their way a few weeks ago.

With Christmas just around the corner I’m sure these ami will be out of the box and on display soon.

Fall Foliage Friday

The Best Seat in the Yard

Our beautiful Katsura tree is looking the best it ever has in fall this year. It’s full of beautiful yellow leaves. We have lots of color in our yard and last week Walter showed you the Japanese maple trees. This week I’ll show some of the other trees and shrubs that are showing some lovely colors.

The Stewartia tree shows off its beautiful orange and yellow leaves.

Fall Foliage Friday

Hi everyone! It’s Walter here.

We are finally seeing some great color changes in our yard. The above picture was taken a couple of days ago and the big tree in the middle, a katsura tree, is now all yellow. Today I’m going to show you just the colors on our Japanese maple trees. We have a wide variety of them throughout the yard and boy are they putting on quite a show.

Check out the beautiful yellow and orange on the Japanese maple on the right above.

Now lets look at a different view of that same tree. You can see much more orange to red color on this side.

Here is one of the lacy varieties of Japanese maple next to our yellow barberry.

This is a close up of that maple tree. Don’t the leaves kind of remind you of feathers? My mom said it reminds her of a feather boa, whatever that is.

Here is a close up of some pretty leaves against the grey bark of the tree.

One more close up of the leaves on another tree. These leaves are like a big fan and have such pretty colors ranging from yellow to dark orange.

Last but not least just look at the trees in this picture. The red tree on the far right and the one in the center are both Japanese maples. The lighter yellow/orange one in the background on the left is a Red Maple (not a Japanese type).

In case you were wondering what that darkish brown is on the corner of our house it is caulk that our dad put in some holes that a crazy wood pecker has been hammering into our house. It is one of the downfalls of having a cedar sided house. As you know we love the birdies around here but we didn’t want one making a home inside our house!

Hooking on Hump Day – Silent Night Part II

Hi everyone it’s Cindy here. Today I’m joining the Hookin on Hump Day blog hop to show you part 2 of the crochet nativity I finished recently. You can read all about the first part here. Today I’m showing you the shepherds and farm animals.

Nativity with Shepherds, Sheep, Mule and Ox

The pattern for the shepherds and sheep is from Let’s Knit Magazine, a magazine published in the UK, and can be found here. It contains the patterns for Baby Jesus, two shepherds, a sheep and the three wise men. This pattern is written in UK terms.

Of course instead of just making one sheep I decided to make a couple more and made one in black. The eyes look different for the black faced sheep because Charlie painted them brown. It took a few coats of paint and sealer to make sure the brown didn’t just rub off.

I decided that I wanted to add a couple more animals to the menagerie so I went to Google and found this pattern that was of both the mule and ox from Canal Crochet.

Except for the heads the pattern for these two are the same. One hurdle I had to overcome with this pattern is that it was written in Spanish. She does provide a key to translate the stitches to English but some of the longer phrases took a bit of work. The great thing about these patterns is that the author also has full length videos of the entire process. Between the video and Google Translate I was able to decipher the patterns. I’m very happy with how they both turned out. In case you are wondering the mule does have a tail just like the ox but it is hidden in the pictures.

As I mentioned in my previous post I used Knit Picks CotLin™ for this project. The pattern for the mule uses pink for the nose and hooves but I liked the light grey color better.

If you like to do amigurumi you should definitely check out Canal Crochet’s blog and YouTube channel. There is a wide variety of patterns and they are all free! With just a little bit of work you can easily translate them. Who knows you might learn a bit of Spanish like I did. I can now count to 10 and can recognize the words for stitch, increase and decrease! I enjoyed watching her videos too as she has a pet bird that sometimes likes to get in the middle of her work and is quite comical to watch.
