Chewy Review – Wellness Core Marrow Roasts

What’s in the box this month?

This time we are reviewing Wellness CORE Grain-Free Marrow Roasts Hearty Beef Recipe Dog Treats. There are other flavors available too.

According to Chewy.com:

Of course our mom broke those pieces in half and only gave us one little piece each.

We don’t have any video this time because our mom goofed up and didn’t hit the button to start it when she said the magic “okay” word. It’s all right though because we ate them so fast there wasn’t much to see.

Happy Gotcha Day Walter!

Hi everyone! It’s Walter here. Can you believe it’s been 5 years since I was welcomed into my forever home? I’m sad to say that this year the rescue Millie and I came from has stopped their rescue work. We can’t thank all the volunteers enough for helping both of us find our forever home. We can keep up with all the alumni from the rescue on their Facebook page now at BDBH Alumni.

I think you all know how much I love my home.

I love playing in our yard in the snow…

…and wrestling with Millie

We can hang out quietly together too.

I love my yard no matter what time of year it is.

But my favorite thing to do is to hang out in bed with my pawrents.

My mom makes a great pillow.

I may be a bit grayer around the muzzle but I haven’t slowed down a bit. I sometimes wonder how my brother is doing. I know he was adopted by another family and I hope he is as happy as I am. I sure am lucky to have found my pawrents and sister.

Chewy Review – Onguard Flea & Tick Treatment

Hi everyone! It’s Millie & Walter here! We are here to do a special Chewy.com review. A little over a month ago we received an unexpected box from Chewy.

What’s in the box this month?

When we opened it we found a box of Onguard Flea & Tick Treatment for Dogs, 45-88 lbs. (There are other sizes available for smaller pups too.) Unfortunately we had received our monthly flea med application just the day before this box from Chewy.com came. We decided that we would just wait a month and use it for our next treatment.

We read the box carefully and also checked online to get all the details before we let our pawrents apply it to us.

According to Chewy.com:

“Onguard Flea & Tick Treatment for Dogs offers an effective and convenient way to keep your pup protected from pests. This fast-acting topical treatment kills all life stages of fleas and ticks on dogs at least 8 weeks old…and helps control infestations of chewing lice and sarcoptic mange mites. With the time-tested and commonly used fipronil and (S)-methoprene as its two active ingredients, Onguard breaks the flea life cycle and rids your dog of fleas that can cause flea allergy dermatitis. Not only does it wipe out adult fleas, but it keeps new eggs from hatching. This powerful formula keeps killing Brown dog ticks, American dog ticks, Lone Star ticks and Deer ticks that may carry Lyme disease for up to a month.”

 

“Application is easy—just squeeze this spot treatment onto your pup’s skin between the shoulder blades. Onguard is long-lasting and waterproof, so it still offers protection even after a bath or if your pup gets caught in the rain.”

To open each application you just snip off the top with a scissors. Then you let your pawrents apply it to your back between your shoulder blades. We don’t have any pictures of us getting the treatment because our pawrents like to work as a team with dad holding us and mom applying the flea medication.

Just a little closer look. You can’t really see it but there is a little wet spot from it.

At a closer look you can see some of it on the surface. Millie’s fur isn’t quite as thick as Walter’s so it comes to the surface a bit easier.

After we got our treatments we were rewarded for being good pups with a cookie. We had this flea treatment about a week ago and can report no adverse effects or any fleas or ticks on either of us. Now we’re going to turn this over to our mom so she can give you her two cents on Onguard Flea & Tick.

Hi everyone. It’s Cindy here now. Millie & Walter normally receive K9 Advantix II Flea & Tick Treatment for Large Dogs 21-55 lbs which is also available from Chewy.com. One of the reasons we use K9 Advantix II is because in addition to protecting the dogs from fleas and ticks it also repels and kills mosquitoes and repels and prevents blood-feeding by biting flies.

Our property has a creek running across it with some swampy areas so we unfortunately have a lot of mosquitoes every summer. We also are subjected to a nasty biting fly season every year. The K9 Advantix II really makes a difference in combating these two pests as well as controlling fleas and ticks.

The bottom line is that Onguard is a good product if you only need to control fleas and ticks. It is also $11 dollars per pack cheaper than K9 Advantix II and right now Chewy.com is running a special for 50% Off First Pack Limit 1 per customer (conditions apply). We are thankful to Chewy for giving us the opportunity try Onguard Flea & Tick treatment and will use it for Millie & Walter again after the summer is over but we prefer to use K9 Advantix II during the mosquito and biting fly season.

Mischief Monday – I’m Having a Ball!

Hi everyone! It’s Walter here. Remember a couple of posts ago when my mom told you about using a valve from an inflatable ball in the doll she made? Well I wanted to show you how I helped her get that valve out of the ball.

I had a little help from my dad because he blew the ball up for me.

Then I took the ball to our living room and gave it a good sniff.

I had fun shaking it and tossing it around a bit.

Don’t mind the mess behind me in front of that chair. That is the remnants from the packing pillows that came in the box with these toy balls. I had to destroy them first.

A Postcard to Mom – on Flower Friday

Hi everyone. It’s Cindy here. Mother Nature must be confused about what time of year it is. While most of my Blogville friends have been posting pictures of leafed out trees and flowers popping from the ground we are stuck with snow.

My mom (who lives near me) has been spending the past few weeks with her brother in Arizona so I thought I would send her a postcard.

The real irony of the above picture is the contrast between what is outside and the picture on the calendar to the right of the sliding door. Let me zoom in on the calendar for you.

What a lovely picture of a dog laying next to a spring blooming shrub. It will be over a month before we could attempt to recreate that picture. It snowed off and on all day yesterday and the high temperature for the next few days will be in the 30’s about 20 degrees below average.

Now I thought I would brighten up this post with a couple pictures my mom took of the cacti blooming in Arizona.

Those are pretty flowers. I hope in a few weeks I will be able to show you some of our own flower pictures.

Hooking on Hump Day – A “Feel Better Friend” for Rylee

Hi everyone it’s Cindy here. Today I’m joining the Hookin on Hump Day blog hop to tell you about my most recent Feel Better Friends (FBF) doll that I made.

Rylee is a 15 year old girl with Cerebral Palsy who recently received a feeding tube. She loves music, camping, fart jokes, crowns, jewelry, feather boas and her favorite colors are pink and purple. Her mom writes that, “She knows that we don’t have one (a feeding tube) and she doesn’t like ‘being different’. She’s sad and she looks at her f-tube and just cries. She needs a ‘friend’ that looks like her.”

One of the things a FBF crafter does is to try and make the doll as much like the child as possible so the Mini Rylee has a feeding tube port (also known as a G-tube). G-tube ports look a lot like the valve of an inflatable toy so that is what I used. I found a package of 12 inflatable emoji beach balls on Amazon for a reasonable price and started from there (I receive no compensation for the Amazon link and include it for others to use).

I included two outfits for the doll. The crocheted dress you see above was adapted from a pattern for a barbie doll. I also made an outfit of pants and a t-shirt and to finish off the outfits a pair of purple and white sneakers.

The hair for this doll was made using Knit Picks Shine sport weight yarn that was first hooked into the scalp. I then styled it as close to Rylee’s hair as possible.

Since Rylee loves crowns I made matching ones for her and the doll. I found a pattern that included sizes from adult to newborn. I made the adult size for Rylee and the infant size fit the doll perfectly. I used Caron Simply Soft in white with Red Heart Shimmer in Snow held together to make both crowns. The Shimmer yarn gave the crowns a bit of sparkle. Then I added a few “jewels” to spruce them up a bit more.

According to her mom, “Rylee loves her doll! The crown and book were hits too. She squealed with delight, she was so excited!” The book she is referring to is Walter the Farting Dog. When I saw that she enjoyed fart jokes I knew I had to get her that book. My Walter included a note with the book for her too.

G-tube pads

Another one of the extras I included were some G-tube pads for Rylee with a matching one for the doll. I found some pads similar to the ones above on Etsy and knew I could make some just like them with my embroidery machine. They are made from 3 layers of absorbent cotton with flannel on the back for softness.

Rylee’s mom said, “Rylee named her ‘mini me’ Joy. Our moto is Choose Joy and we say that a lot to remind ourselves that God is good and we can choose our attitude. Thank you for bringing us a little Joy!” So far each of the dolls that I’ve made have had something new to work into them. I enjoy the challenges these dolls give me and I think Rylee’s smile is all the thank you I need.
