Archive for January, 2019

Hi everyone! It’s Millie and Walter here! It’s time for our January Chewy.com review.

No box today. We got a bag in the mail.

Walter is still playing with the shipping bag but I found the treats for our review.

This bag seems lighter than before.

This month we are reviewing CANIDAE Grain-Free PURE Heaven Biscuits with Bison & Butternut Squash Crunchy Dog Treats.

CANIDAE Grain-Free PURE Heaven Biscuits with Bison & Butternut Squash

There are other flavors of treats available too.

According to Chewy.com:

“Made with bison and butternut squash, this recipe also includes wholesome cumin, sesame oil and ginger—lending just the right flavor and nutrition that your dog craves. A must for quality time with your buddy, these crunchy treats feature an easy-snap texture that are perfect for training and rewarding. And they also help clean his teeth!”

Some of the key benefits of these treats are:

  • Made with recognizable ingredients like bison and butternut squash.
  • Healthy, grain-free treats are great tasting for a healthy reward.
  • Crunchy, easy-snap texture is great for rewarding and helps clean teeth.
  • Plenty to go around with over 30 treats in every bag.
  • Made in the USA by the family-owned company with uncompromising quality.

Those are a nice size treat.

I hope mom doesn’t break them in half.

This is always the hardest part.

Check out the video to see how we enjoyed these treats.

If you can’t see the video you can go here to view it.

We always get a second tasting.

These are great biscuits.

I hope I get to eat all of this one this time.

That Walter is such a thief! He stole part of my biscuit again. Just because I like to break mine in smaller pieces doesn’t mean you get to have some of it.

Maybe if we get just a half piece each Walter won’t steal any of mine!

I get to go first this time.

I really love these treats.

This time there was no stealing. As you can see we both loved these treats.

Hi everyone. It’s Millie here. As you might remember last Friday we were waiting for Winter Storm Harper to hit our area and boy did it ever!

I wonder what is hiding under the snow.

The snow started around mid day on Saturday and didn’t stop until this afternoon! The first 24 hours were from the storm and the last 24 hours were from lake effect. My mom estimates that we got around 24 to 30 inches (61 to 76 cm).

I like going off trail!

It was quite windy so there are some areas that are up to our mom’s thigh. Of course she is only 5’2″ tall but that is still deep.

I think I hit a dead end.

Walter and I haven’t been able to play in the snow much because the other factor to this storm has been the cold temps we’ve been having. Our high temps haven’t gotten over 15° F (-10° C) with wind chills below zero and late at night or early morning it’s been in the single digits.

That snow is deep and it’s cold out here!

Here is a little action video of us today. Don’t be fooled by the brief amount of sunshine you see. It only lasted for a few seconds and it was snowing right through it (that’s the fun of lake effect snow).

If you can’t see the video you can go here to view it.

On those really cold mornings our mom puts booties on us so we can be out long enough to get all our “business” taken care of without hurting our paws. You should see how many layers of clothes our mom has to wear. BOL!

We were getting spoiled with a fairly warm and snow free winter for the past month but Mother Nature is making up for lost time.

No birds are bathing here.

Some of this snow should disappear in a few days as the forecast for Wednesday calls for temperatures in the low 40’s F (5°C) and some rain.

Well I just wanted to let you know that we survived the storm and can’t wait for the temps to warm up a little so we can get out and have fun in the snow. Stay warm friends.

Hi everyone! It’s Millie & Walter here. We’re sure most of you have heard about the storm moving across the country. According to our weather peeps we will probably see almost 2 feet of snow and wind chills below zero degrees Fahrenheit by then end of this weekend.

I can’t wait to romp in deeper snow.

This snow isn’t very deep. My nose can easily reach the grass.

We’ve had a few inches of snow on the ground for a while now and the temps haven’t been too cold either.

Wrestling is fun in any amount of snow.

It’s always fun to wrestle no matter how much snow there is but it’s always better with some deep powder to cushion your fall.

If I were laying here on Sunday I would be up to my ears in snow!

Our pawrents aren’t too happy about all the snow that is coming. We have someone to plow the snow off our driveway but our pawrents still have to keep the front walk and back patio shoveled.

Don’t worry mom. I’ll plow a path for you in the back yard.

Luckily we don’t have anything planned that we have to drive to so we think there will be lots of binge watching all together in the big bed.

We hope all our friends in the path of this storm stay safe.

So far this winter has been pretty mild and our snow fall has been a little below average. We guess Mother Nature wants to make up for lost time this weekend.

I think I see the storm clouds coming.

This will be a different view in a few days.

We’ve noticed increased activity with the birds and other wildlife around our house. Maybe they can tell the weather is going to get bad and are filling up before everything gets covered in snow.

Hi everyone it’s Cindy here. Today I’m joining the Hookin on Hump Day blog hop to tell you about a baby afghan I made for the newest member of my extended family.

Paris Matelassé Circular Baby Afghan

This past August my niece welcomed a baby girl to her family.

Meredith Anne
7 lbs. 12 oz. and 21” long

When I heard that a new baby was coming I started planning which afghan I would make. I made a circular afghan for the first baby in this family so I picked another one from Priscilla’s Crochet Matelassè collection. Pricilla’s patterns can be found on her website or on Ravelry.

Paris Matelassé Circular Baby Afghan

I really like these afghans because they have lots of texture for a little one to explore and finish at a nice size of about 36″ across.

The pattern only calls for a single color but when I checked out other projects for this afghan on Ravelry I saw a few that were done in multiple colors and really liked how they turned out. The yarn I used was Caron Simply Soft in white for the main color, Bernat Softee Baby in Prettiest Pink for the darker pink, and Bernat Softee Baby in Pink for the lighter pink.

The Rolling Cable stitch gives the afghan dimension

I really like the way the rolling cable stitch (the dark pink) looks but it is a lot of work. To make this stitch you have to work over the same 8 stitches 3 times. The first to create a chain, the second to crochet over the chain and the third to work behind the cable to get to the start of the next cable.

Even the back looks nice

In addition to the afghan I made a pair of booties and a nice little bonnet for Meredith.

The pattern only calls for one color so I did a little modification to give it a white accent on the front.

Meredith wearing her bonnet

Since Meredith was born my niece has been taking monthly pictures of her on the afghan and posting them on Facebook so those of us not living close to them can see how she is growing.

Meredith also enjoys some “tummy time” on her afghan.

I don’t want you to think that Meredith doesn’t share her afghan with other family members. She has been very generous in sharing it with her kitty sister Downton Tabby.

Downton Tabby enjoys a nice nap on the afghan while Meredith plays

Downton Tabby is such a sweet kitty and is one of my favorites among the family cats (check us out a few years ago here).

As you can see Meredith is a happy and healthy little girl. She and the rest of the family enjoy the afghan I made. It’s always nice to see that something you made is well loved.
