Hi everyone! It’s Cindy here. Last week I showed you our Bluebirds so this week I want to show you some of the other birds around our yard. Let’s start with the largest.
There is no difference between male and female Blue Jays but the next pair has subtle difference between genders.
The only gender difference between the Downy Woodpeckers is that the male has a red spot on the back of his head. The next two birds are about the same size and are some of the smallest birds we have around our yard.
Like the Blue Jay the male and female Song Sparrow and Tufted Titmouse look the same.
I hope you enjoyed seeing some of the birds around our yard. There are more pictures to come as more migrants arrive and I’m working hard on trying to photograph some of the more skittish birds in our yard.
I’m joining the Wild Bird Wednesday blog hop. You should stop by and see some more birds.
Beautiful images of your bird ‘residents’!
We get hairy wood peckers among the many types, and while they look like the Downy, they are much larger. Sometimes we get to see the elusive Pileated Woodpecker. No mistaking that one for any others!
What a wonderful collection of feathered friends!
we love woodpeckers… and we wait to hear them in the forest… but by now everything is quiet… maybe the berds are grounded too?
Beautiful and inspiring 💕

Cindy, these are delightful ‘takes’ and I certainly look forward to more!!! YAM xx
We do love seeing your birds – mostly unfamiliar to those of us in the UK.
Thanks!
Your photos are just beautiful! We love the birdies.
You have some great photos of the beautiful birds in your garden. I wish I could get one of those, but one press on the shutter button and they disappear.

Those really are beautiful birds! We have a woodpecker here, we haven’t seen it but we can hear it.
Hi Walter, I wonder if that was the blue jay that was stealing my food? Please let Millie know Fen is out of sedation but still can’t walk, so Mom can’t pick him up yet. And she hasn’t gotten the Doctor’s report yet so we have our paws (fingers and toes) crossed it’s not something serious. ~Your gal, Tuiren
Such beautiful birds in your neighborhood. Alas, blue jays are only at higher elevations. While they’re noisey, they sure are a beautiful shot of color in mountain pines.
We haven’t seen so many different kinds of birdies in our yard lately. That’s probably because we took all the feeders down to keep the grackles away. But we do have a cardinal pair and lots of robins who like the berries on the hawthorn tree.
Pretty birds. Blue jays are stunning to look at, but Mom says they once divebombed her and really scared her.
Woos, Lightning and Timber
Amazing pictures. We have so many Jays at our house too. One day in the winter I counted 16 at the feeder!
Thank you so much for sharing these wonderful photos. The Downy Woodpecker’s are just so beautiful. We hope you are doing well and having a great day so far.
We love bird watching. Fabulous to see different kinds.
Birds are amazing creatures.
Oh, your Blue jays are prettier than ours! Ours don’t have the fancy markings…just plain blue/wt/grey/black. We gots lots of Mourning Doves and hummers and sparrows and friggin’ crows…lots of crows! sigh.
Thanks for the FABulous photos!
Kisses,
Ruby ♥
We had bluejays all winter…now for some reason they and their very loud voices have gone on hiatus. Downy Woodpeckers make me happy. They are around here as long as there is suet out. Which of course I am happy to keep it out.
Hugs Cecilia
The tufted titmouse is such a beauty! It was my mother’s favorite bird. We don’t have them in our neck of the woods so I always love seeing great photos of them like yours. Thanks.
Charlee: “Birds! We love looking at birds!”
Chaplin: “Birrrrrrds.”
Lulu: “You two are a little creepy about birds.”
Chaplin: “I seem to remember an incident involving you and a squirrel, Lulu.”
Lulu: “Touche.”

Wow, those are some great shots of that blue-jay! Every time I’m about to hit the shutter-release they turn or fly off and I just get a blur, lol.
