Hi everyone! It’s Walter here. Last time I posted for Nature Friday I showed you some of our butterflies. Today it’s all about the bees!

Let’s see what’s buzzing around the yard.

Our dad was taking pictures of the bees for us.

Are you sure you have the right f-stop dad?
Millie, you have to be wearing bee camouflage to get this close!

That sister of mine almost scared away the bees!

The bees feel safer now that Millie is gone.

Hi everyone! It’s Cindy here. Late last week we were lucky to have some Painted Lady butterflies migrating through our yard. They enjoyed a stop over for some refueling. We first found them enjoying the sedum.

The underside of a Painted Lady Butterfly is not as colorful as the upperside.

The upperside of the Painted Lady Butterfly.

They really loved the sedum…

… and often had to share them with other insects like this honey bee

Here is a little video of the action on the sedum.

If you can’t see the video you can go here to view it.

The next day when we came outside there were many more Painted Ladies and this time most of them were on the Blue Fortune Agastache.

At one point we counted about a dozen butterflies on the agastache

The butterflies worked every angle of the flowers

This would make a good Tongue Out Tuesday picture

The upperside is so beautiful

Here a video of the action on the agastache.

We also found the Painted Ladies on our hydrangea.

I hope you enjoyed seeing the Painted Lady invasion we had in our yard recently.

Hi everyone it’s Cindy here. Okay so maybe there will be a few words. There are a few plants in our yard right now that are virtual magnets for all sorts of insects. One of the favored plants right now is the sedum. Here are a few of the smaller visitors.

White Belted Black Wasp

Zabulon Skipper

Silver Spotted Skipper

For those of you wondering how I know the names of so many different insects I just do a simple internet search using key words that also indicate the region I’m in such as “black wasp western ny”. I can usually find what I’m looking for with all the images out there.
