Hi everyone it’s Cindy here. While moving all my files from one computer to another I discovered a picture that took me back over a decade ago. ย A young Angel Nina was hanging out in the yard while helping Charlie do some gardening.
Many of the plants towards the front of the planting were just put in the ground during that spring of 2005. The small tree in the middle with the red leaves is a Japanese Maple. In front of the maple tree to the right and left are a couple of evergreen shrubs.
Here is the same Japanese Maple and evergreen shrubs about 11 years later. Some of the shrubs that are in the top picture were moved as the tree and other shrubs grew and crowded them out. You never know how a planting will turn out when it first goes in the ground. It’s always fun to stumble on a picture of what our yard looked like when a planting was first done to remind us of how it once looked. Gardening definitely takes patience to wait for the final outcome.
it is true… and gardens are like magic places somehow… but we need patience… even me… I read that it needs 4-5 years till the agapanthus I planted yesterday gets flowers… a challenge for mrs. impatience aka me :O)
Gorgeous. Our garden was just weeds and very hot. Now we have to find shade growing plants…..time certainly makes a difference.
What a beautiful memory.
What a nice shot of then and now.
How amazing! Ghostwriter said that when they bought this house 34 years ago, there was nothing but flat ground and even the grass would’t grow in it. Some of the trees, like the huge silver maple, were started from seeds. Our gigantic hydrangea was just a few sticks the kids bought at a flea market! Where does the time go? It was nice to see your angel Nina.
It doesn’t take long before those young plants can become so much bigger! You have such beautiful gardens!
We love the maples…shape, size and color. Ohh so very nice to see Angel Nina…she was one of my first K9 furiends!!
Hugs madi your bfff
Oh what a difference a decade makes! Our trees are getting big too!

We have some photos like that! When we first put in our junipers they were all so small. Then they grew so much and took over the slope and became a haven for mice so most of them are gone now!

Wow! I love the “now and then” look — and loved seeing Nina!

Your yard is really beautiful, your hard work and dedication to it really show! I was looking through similar pictures this week, and I enjoyed seeing what has survived, despite *my* neglect! ๐ –Hope all is well with you, and your week is ending on a good note!
That maple has grown into a beautiful tree!! How wonderful to find such a beautiful memory!
Beautiful!! I love then and now pictures! ๐
That is a lot of fun to look at the beginning times of planting and where it ends up. We have a few pics of Dakota and Phantom in our very bare yard here from when Mom and Dad first moved back to Kansas. it is interesting to see the changes. We always love seeing photos of your beautiful gardens.

Just look at Nina. Amazing to think about how time has gone by, and yet it just doesn’t seem like that long at all. Beautiful share. ๐ Sam

Wow, that’s a cool comparison. It turned out great after all these years!
You are a smart planter. I’ve seen more than one building where the trees were planted too close to it and the roots caused major problems. People just fail to think what is going to happen in 10, 20 or even 50 years!
It is really cool to stumble across old pics! Great memories! My favorite tree in our back yard is the one my daughter brought home from first grade on Earth Day. It was about the size of a coke bottle. Today it is like twenty feet tall! ๐
That really is amazing! We look back to pictures of our place from 20 years ago, things really do GROW!!
We luvs the look of the Japanese Maple, it has a beautiful spread to it’s canopy. It is a joy to see how planting turn out and to sit back and say I made that happen.
Thanks for being a friend
