Hi everyone! It’s Millie & Walter here to show you our Halloween costumes. Just like last year our mom got it in her head that she could crochet something for us to wear and she did it.

Can you guess who we are?

Can you guess who we are?

If you read yesterday’s post there is a hint as to who Walter is. If you are a fan of South Park you might recognize the outfits to be the same as the only couple (other than the parents) on the show.

Yep that’s right! Our mom tried to turn us into a couple of South Park characters. Now I, Walter, want to make sure that Tuiren doesn’t think that Millie is my girlfriend even though on the show Wendy and Stan are a couple. Yuck! She is just my sister and our pawrents are so obsessed with South Park right now that they thought it would be cute for us to be these characters.

Mom made both of us sweaters with coordinating hats. Millie’s hat is a beret style with a button on the top.

Both of the sweaters button down one side to make putting them on easier. Our mom will do another post to bore you with the details of how she made the hats and sweaters.

Let's hurry over to Dory's place for the party.

Now that we are suited up we are heading over to Dory’s place for the big Halloween party. We didn’t get our pictures in to Dory on time but we sure can go enjoy a good time. See you there!

Hi everyone, it’s Cindy here to tell you a little about the Halloween costumes I made for Millie and Walter this year. Even though it has been just over a year since I learned to crochet I guess I can no longer call myself a novice hooker. I feel that since I have started making up my own patterns and creating free form crochet I will have to classify myself as an intermediate hooker now.

With the big Blogville Halloween Ball approaching I wanted to make some fun costumes for the pups. When I started I didn’t even know that Millie would have a date, but I wanted something for her that would look great against her black fur.

After searching the internet I stumbled upon a pattern for a candy corn sweater sized for a cat and used that as my inspiration for Millie’s dress. I used the basic concept from that pattern for the body (orange portion) and upper body/neck area but had to just play it by feel for how big to make it. I really liked how it was just open in front and didn’t rely on leg holes. The above picture was taken prior to me redoing the upper white portion. It was a bit loose and hung down too low so I ripped some of it out and redid it with fewer rows.

How do you like my cute gathered skirt?

For the lower portion I created a large yellow rectangle about three times the width I wanted the skirt to be. I anchored a couple strands of yarn at one end, wove them along the length of one edge and gathered it up . I used two rows of single crochet to attach the skirt to the bottom of the orange portion.

The entire dress is done in double crochet. I did it a bit loose so Millie’s black fur would show through a little.

You can see how the white portion is smaller than the previous picture.

This style of sweater for the dogs was very easy to put on and take off. While Millie might not look thrilled in her pictures it is mostly because she is not a big fan of modeling, but she really didn’t mind wearing the dress.

Now on to Walter’s Bumble Bee costume.

Don't I make a cute bee?

For Walter’s costume I had made the main body section a little bigger than I should have. To make it fit better I decided to  weave some elastic around both the top and bottom edges of the main body to gather it up a bit. I think it worked out great as it gave the costume some added volume.

I can't believe she made me wear these antenna!

I even made a headband with ear holes (although they weren’t placed quite right) to attach some antenna to, but I didn’t make Walter wear it for very long. He really is a good boy and never really tried to shake them off, but you could tell he would rather not be wearing them.

I used part of a Red Heart pattern to make the antenna. The last part was to make the wings.

I did the wings totally free form working it with double crochet and then a single chain stitch repeated across each row. I made two halves that I joined down the center. I used single crochet to join the two halves and also worked pipe cleaners (chenille stems) along the seam. From there I continued around the outer edge with single crochet around pipe cleaners to give the wings some stability.

After I finished the wings I realized they were going to be a bit big for the costume. I also noticed from pictures of actual bumble bees that my concept was a bit off from reality, but if I folded the wings at the narrow section they more closely resembled real wings. I then added a few stitches to anchor the two halves together.

To attach the wings to the body I made a couple of chains out of the white yarn and tied them on. This way I can easily take them off to have a plain sweater for Walter to wear if he needed it for warmth. With Walter’s first winter with us approaching I figured this way he would have something to wear if needed.

Over all I’m real happy with how these turned out. If I ever need to make something for them to keep them warm this is the form I  will use.

Hi everyone it’s Walter here. Even though Millie went on a date with Sarge yesterday I wasn’t left out of all the fun.  In addition to going to the ball, Sarge hosted a couple of fun events and I participated in the Punkin Chuckin event.

BAM!

BAM!

This was a lot of fun where everyone just had to smash a pumpkin however they wanted. I think I have great form.

Now if you were here yesterday you may have noticed that before he and Millie left for their date I told Sarge that I would be watching him and I sure did.

These wings can fly!

You see when mom made my costume she added some special super powers that allowed me to keep tabs on the happy couple. They started the date with a bite to eat at a Romanian restaurant.

Waiting for their table at the restaurant Sarge do you hear a buzzing?

After a short wait for a table they sat down and ate some good looking stuff.

Oh Sarge this is delicious!

Oh Sarge this is delicious!

I had a hard time not swooping down to munch on all the food they had, but like a true bee after they were done I had some of the left overs. I didn’t want to blow my cover after all.

Hey Millie let's take a stroll around the castle.

Millie has to watch her waist line so she and Sarge took a walk around the castle and gardens to work off some of their meal.

I swear I hear something buzzing!

After that they headed over to the big Halloween Ball. Sarge changed in to his candy kiss costume and he and Millie started dancing the night away.

Oh Sarge this is the best night I have ever had.

Oh yuck! By the end of the night they started to get all mushy. They were slow dancing and I think they even kissed! Even with the kiss I think Sarge was a gentleman and mom didn’t really have to worry. I’m glad I was able to keep my eye on them to put my mom’s mind at ease. After all you know how snoopy little brothers like to be. 😉

Hi everyone it’s Millie here. I’m very excited today because it is the day of the big Blogville Halloween Ball. A couple of weeks ago Sarge, the Blogville Chief of Police, asked me to be his date for the ball. After I checked with my pawrents I let Sarge know we could go to the ball together.

Of course the first thing I had to do was decide what to wear to the ball. I put my mom on the job and as usual she did not disappoint me. She got her crochet hook working over time and made me the most beautiful candy corn dress I have ever seen.

Sarge has a whole day of activities planned for us and was right on time to pick me up. I took him out to the back yard and introduced him to my dad. He met mom too, but she was behind the camera so there are no pictures of her.

Hello Mr. Charlie...I promise to have Miss Millie home on time sir.

Isn’t Sarge just so handsome in his candy corn bandanna? He picked it out especially to match my dress. We went inside for a little while and Walter wanted to have a talk with Sarge before we took off.

No funny stuff Sarge...I'll be watching you.

I have to admit that Walter looks pretty cute in the bumble bee costume mom made for him.  We posed for some pictures before we left. You know how pawrents want those formal pictures.

You look fantastic Millie. Thank you Sarge...you look very handsome today too.

Before I knew it we were getting in our ride to start today’s adventure.

Don't worry Sarge...I promise not to run out on you at midnight. My mom said we could stay out as late as we want.

I can’t wait to see where Sarge is going to take me. He promised me a bite to eat before we head to the ball and would you just look at that beautiful pumpkin carriage he came in?

To see how our date went visit Sarge’s blog later today. He will be posting about our date around 5pm Eastern Time. If you miss his post I will have a recap here on Friday. Wish me luck on my first big date!
