Chewy Review – Merrick Backcountry Great Plains Real Steak Patties Dog Treats

It’s time for this month’s Chewy.com review. We are reviewing Merrick Backcountry Great Plains Real Steak Patties Dog Treats. There are other flavors available too.

According to the Chewy website these treats “feature a hearty, wood-smoked taste that dogs go wild for. These treats are grain-free with no gluten ingredients and have real beef as the first ingredient.” These tasty treats are made in the USA and we know how important that is to all of us.

How do I get this bag open?

The treats are a soft patty that is unfortunately easy to break into smaller pieces.

I can’t wait to get my chompers on that patty.
That looks like quite a mouthful.

Why did mom tear the treat in half?

I was really hoping for a whole patty

We can’t believe it but our mom ripped the patty in half and we only got half each. Finally she put the pieces on the floor and, as usual, made us wait before we could eat them. Here is our taste test video.

As you can see in the end we both really loved these treats! Mom let us try another half piece each.

We have to give these treats 8 paws up (because that is all the paws we have) and we recommend them to all our friends.

Kitchen Renovation – Week 4

Hi everyone. It’s Cindy here. First I want to apologize for not visiting your blogs lately. I was away over the weekend visiting family for a wedding shower and was very busy for a few days before that finishing my gift. I’ve been trying to keep up with the reading but probably won’t have time to comment on many.

Now let’s get on with the kitchen renovation update.

After the tile floor was finished the crew went to work installing the cabinets. I don’t have too many pictures of that work because it was quite a mess with cabinets all over the floor.

Here is a view of the kitchen with the cabinets installed.

The cabinets are Dynasty by Omega with the Ultima door style. The wood is cherry with the sage finish. We have a few cabinets that will have glass installed later so don’t think the doors are missing.

The next step was to have the templates for the granite created.

I was only able to sneak one picture of the man from Rocky Mountain Granite working. If you haven’t had this done let me explain. What he is doing is taking corrugated plastic and precisely cutting them to the size needed. He then screws the pieces together to make one continuous template. You can see the one for the other wall in the foreground of the above picture. Later we will go to their shop and layout the templates on the granite pieces we picked out.

The next step was to install the crown molding, base trim and the knobs we selected.

There was a slight problem with the upper cabinets because they had been installed too close to the ceiling. The crew measured the distance between the lower and upper cabinets to determine the height but forgot to check that there was enough room for the trim. This slowed them down a bit because they had to take all the upper cabinets off the wall and re-hang them almost an inch lower. Being vertically challenged this doesn’t bother me one bit.

The new microwave is installed but not plugged in yet. We are farther along than this post but I will show you more in another post.

Happy Birthday Millie!

Hi everyone! Today is Millie’s 5^th birthday^*. It’s hard to believe that the little, floppy eared, bundle of spunk that came to us at 5 months old is 5 already.

She showed her true nature on her first day here when she decided to pick a fight with one of our garden statues.

She had her daddy wrapped around her little paw right from the start but seriously who could resist those eyes?

I’m cute huh?

For a while both of her ears were floppy…

…but eventually her right ear started to straighten up.

Her love for snow became apparent during her first winter.

In April of 2013 she welcomed Walter with open paws.

I don’t know but he better give me some first.

Right from the start Millie has been the happiest when she is hanging out in her backyard.

Of course she enjoys sharing her yard with Walter too.

Millie has some quirks that always make us smile.

One thing Millie does real well is snuggle.

You call this snuggling? I say she is hogging the bed.

Her favorite place to snuggle is right next to her dad.

Did I mention how much she likes the snow…

…or how much she enjoys hanging out in the yard under her favorite tree?

With all the work going on in the kitchen right now there won’t be much of a celebration but we will make it up to her when the project is finished. We would like to thank Madi and her mom for sending such a sweet birthday card to Millie.

She also received one from Walter’s sweetie Tuiren and her family.

Kitchen Renovation – Week 3

Hi everyone! It’s Cindy here with the next update on our kitchen renovation. There have been a couple of changes since my last update.

While the crew was away for the weekend Charlie (with a little help from me) was able to get the ceiling and walls painted. You can also see in the picture above that the old flooring has been removed. We were hoping that we would have been able to keep our existing floor but unfortunately that didn’t work out. The laminate tiles that were there had been glued in place (even though it wasn’t necessary) so instead of just being able to pop them out they broke when it was tried.

This sent Charlie and I scrambling to find flooring that would work well at the transitions to the family room and dining room as well as coordinate with our granite counter top and cherry cabinets.

We were able to find a closeout porcelain tile that has a nice range of colors that mimics some of our granite colors.

Yesterday most of the tile was laid in the kitchen area. The old floor also went into the back hall, powder room and laundry room. We didn’t want to have too many different floors on the first floor so the tile is being laid through that area too.

The tiles are 1′ x 2′ and they didn’t put them all the way to the wall in most places since they are just being covered by cabinets. The same thing is true for the patchy paint job you see above. The wallboard does have a coat of clear sealer to help preserve it as well.

 We love the tile and are excited to have the cabinets coming tomorrow!

Kitchen Renovation – Week 2

Hi everyone! It’s Cindy here to give you an update on our kitchen renovation. I will also give Walter some room at the end of the post to let you know how he thinks things are going.

As you can see, the wallboard is up and the crew has started putting mud on the walls.

One of the things we are most excited about with our renovation is that we will finally have a vent hood that is exhausted outside.

Once the vent is painted it won’t stand out so much.

The replacement cedar siding is up. Now we just have to wait for some warmer and drier weather so Charlie can stain it. We have an appointment next week to have the landscaper come to make plans for moving the steps to the new location of the door.

As you can see I’m a little more concerned about the work going on in the kitchen than Millie is. To be honest this video was taken on the first day of work. Now that we are about 2 weeks into the project both of us are not as nervous or barky as we were the first day. We do bark at them when they come in first thing in the morning but we settle down much quicker. The crew are very nice and when they have taken their breaks and are hanging out on the patio we sometimes go out and get some pets and have even given a few kisses here and there.

Zzzzzzzzzz…

When the work is done at the end of the day we all crash on the big bed and take a little nap. All this snoopervising work is exhausting!

This weekend our dad gets to paint the walls and ceiling and early next week the cabinets will be installed so stay tuned.
