Hi everyone! It’s Millie & Walter here. There aren’t many new flowers blooming in our yard so we thought we would show you some of the creatures that are hanging around the garden.
Okay. Maybe there isn’t a bug in the grass that is about to crawl on Millie but we found this katydid on a daylily.
The next thing we want to show you is the cabbage white butterfly. We always have plenty of these butterflies in our yard every year but they are difficult to capture since they are often moving so fast.
This next creature is a first sighting at our house.
According to Wikipedia the caterpillar of these butterflies are pests of some crops, especially beans. We think the reason we saw this one is that the crop field just a few hundred yards from our house has beans in it this year. Usually they grow corn but have changed it up this time.

I think we found some interesting creatures to show everyone today.
I’m keeping my eyes out for more of those katydids. Did you see how big those pincers were on that thing?
We hope you enjoyed a look at some of the nature in our yard this week.
We are joining the LLB Gang for their Nature Friday Blog Hop. You should pop over to their blog to see all the other posts.
Fenris was chasing a lizard today. Mom helped it escape. Mom loves the Long Tailed Skipper.
Those are some splendid photos of the creatures in your back yard. Well done Millie and Walter (and your Mom!)

This is a great time of year in WNY! We love to hear the katydids, crickets, and cicadas, and watch all the different butterflies and moths!
Millie and Walter, you DID do a great job finding us some very interesting bugs to see. And your peeps did a fantastic job with their photos. That cabbage white butterfly is so unique – thanks for sharing.

Charlee: “So … if we plant beans, it’ll attract caterpillars that turn into moths that we can stare at?”
Chaplin: “On it!” *steals beans from the kitchen to plant outside later*
OMD, we have those grasshoppers too! they make quite the racket at night! BOL! Great finds guys! Just make sure they don’t crawl on you….ewwww!
Kisses,
Ruby ♥
I love seeing all your little critters! Of course, ours are about the same, however, the cicadas are so loud in our woods it’s almost deafening. And I think the katydid’s are such a striking bug, why do they hide themselves and come out at night? 🙂
That long tailed skipper looks interesting. And colourful too, despite not showing much of it.

What a great post! We have regular Skippers here but this is teh first time we have seen a long-tailed one!
Woofs,
Ollie
What cool little critters roam your yard! We have lots of skippers around here too!!
We liked seeing the bugs better than flowers, since bugs are more engaging. That katydid sure has long, stilt-like legs, and the skipper has pretty blues on it. I, Xena, like to taste them. Did you know that the little brown ants taste much better than the big black carpenter ants? I scarf them up, but spit out the carpenter ants. XOX Lucy and Xena
